Grand Valley State Running Back Enters 2018 NFL Supplemental Draft

Carter set the GVSU single-season record with 1,908 yards rushing and 20 touchdowns earning consensus Division II All-America honors.

ALLENDALE, Mich. - Grand Valley State senior Running Back Marty Carter is forgoing his senior year to enter the 2018 National Football League supplemental draft.

The supplemental draft will be held July 11th at 1 p.m.

Carter is the Lakers' all-time leading rusher with 3,728 yards and 36 TDs in 36 games. He also caught 35 passes for 209 yards and one TD.

In 2016, as a sophomore, Carter set the GVSU single-season record with 1,908 yards rushing and 20 touchdowns earning consensus Division II All-America honors. Carter finished the year as the D2Football.com National Offensive Player of the Year and came in fifth in the Harlon Hill Award voting for the D2 Player of the Year.

"We would like to thank Marty for what he did for GVSU football and we wish him the very best as he moves on to the next chapter of his life and football career," said head coach Matt Mitchell.

Carter missed as a junior in 2017, finishing the year with 931 yards rushing and nine TDs.

Gvsulakers.com says Carter trying to join former Lakers CB Brandon Carr (Baltimore Ravens), DL Matt Judon (Baltimore Ravens), WR Charles Johnson (New York Jets), LB David Talley (Green Bay Packers) and TE Nick Keizer (Baltimore Ravens) in the NFL, while OL Brandon Revenberg is starting for the Hamilton Tiger Cats in the CFL.

Grand Valley State will open the 2018 football campaign Thursday, Aug. 30 at 7 p.m. versus 2017 Great Lakes Valley Conference champion Indianapolis.
