Grand Rapids Catholic Central's Connor Wolf ready to join elite QB room at Eastern Illinois

The state-champion quarterback is certainly glad things ended the way they did. Now, he will earn a full-ride scholarship at the Division 1 level.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — It has been a wild few weeks for Grand Rapids Catholic Central High School quarterback Connor Wolf.

He committed to Division 2's Hillsdale back on December 5, just a few weeks before early national signing day.

On Wednesday, he put pen to paper to join Eastern Illinois in the FCS.

So how did it happen? He was offered a scholarship almost two weeks ago, and then committed this past weekend.

"The timing wasn't ideal," Wolf said. "That's just how these things work out. You can never really go on your own time. It's just the way things happen."

The state-champion quarterback is certainly glad things ended the way they did. Now, he will earn a full-ride scholarship at the Division 1 level.

"It's been crazy," Wolf said. "Definitely relying on my family and my friends and everybody in my corner to help make the right decision for me. It's definitely been crazy the last couple of weeks and I am excited for the next few years with Eastern Illinois. I am glad we landed on that decision."

Wolf says going the Division 1 route is a plus, but he wanted a good fit. He believes he will get that in Charleston.

"The culture they are building [was a selling point]," Wolf said. "I was able to meet a lot of guys on the team. Really great guys. The coaches are great guys."

Several great football minds have made their way through Eastern Illinois. Two prominent NFL quarterbacks Tony Romo and Jimmy Garropolo both played for the Panthers. Super Bowl winning head coach Sean Payton also at one point played quarterback there.

Wolf is excited to join a quarterback room that has produced some elite talent.

"It's really special to be a part of now," Wolfe said. "A lot of great guys have gone through that room. There's a bunch of great guys in the room right now. It's just really special."

The Panthers return last year's starting quarterback Pierce Holley, but Wolf wants to make the room even more competitive once he joins the team in the summer.

"I am going to go compete no matter what and just try and learn as much as I can from the guys that they have," Wolf said.

Wolf hopes to study Kinesiology when he gets on campus.
