HOPKINS, Mich. — The newest Meijer Scholar Athlete of the week is Hopkins senior, Micah Estelle. Estelle plays both soccer and basketball for the Vikings, while maintaining a GPA over 4.0.
Estelle was a member of the all-district team for soccer for the second straight season and on the court he shot 69% from the field, while leading the team in rebounds.
Estelle said he starts the day by taking care of his farm animals. He shows chickens and goats in the fair and was the top duck and goose showman the last few years.
Estelle is also in the school band and participates in the school musical. He is playing Mr. Banks in the school's rendition of Mary Poppins at the end of the month. With everything he does, Estelle said school is still his number one priority.
"It is crucial to manage how you are planning out your day and making sure that school is coming first," said Estelle. "If you don't have that, you won't be focused on sports. It is way easier to get that done and then get into the gym."
Estelle will be attending Grand Rapids Community College in the fall where he will play on the basketball team and major in business.
