West Ottawa's Gabby Reynolds makes strong case for Miss Basketball

The award could be sticking with a West Side hooper for the second year in a row.

HOLLAND, — Last basketball season, Macy Brown of East Grand Rapids High School was named Michigan's Miss Basketball becoming the first girl from West Michigan to take home the honor since Mona Shores alum Jordan Walker did so back in 2017.

The award could be sticking with a West Side hooper for the second year in a row.

West Ottawa standout Gabby Reynolds has been showing out during her senior season.

The George Washington University signee is averaging 28.2 points, 5 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 3.3 steals per game, which is more points and assists per contest than Brown finished with last year.

Reynolds says Miss Basketball would be great, but that's not where her focus is at.

"It's definitely a blessing," Reynolds said. "I think more than anything it is an honor to be a candidate at this point. It's super exciting to play with these girls. I could not have asked to play with a better group. I have been playing with them for a super long time so it is really fun to end my last year super strong with all of these girls. I have a really good connection with all of them and we play really well as a team. I am excited. Obviously, I want to end this year off really well. Hopefully win districts and regionals. See the outcomes of that. Overall, just super excited. Hopefully, Miss Basketball is something I can achieve but we'll see. That is definitely not the main goal right now, but definitely a goal."

Reynolds is only 107 points away from 1,500 for her high school career.
