Whitecaps preparing for home opener Tuesday

While many of the stadium upgrades are to improve the experience for players, fans will see a difference as well.

COMSTOCK PARK, Mich. — The return of the West Michigan Whitecaps means spring is officially here! The Whitecaps will be playing their fourth game of the season Tuesday at LMCU Ballpark, which will be showcasing some new additions.

Work on the upgrades began during the offseason. It includes the construction of a new clubhouse, batting tunnels and a suite area so visitors can watch while players have batting practice. The clubhouse is expected to be completed by mid-summer.

The netting has also been extended to increase fan safety, and there is a new lawn space above the bullpens.

Ballpark management said there are more stadium updates to come to improve the fan experience.

"This is our 31st year and our fans have been fabulous. It is the mainstay of our organization," said Whitecaps Director of Marketing Lynn Tuori. "So we're happy to be able to reinvest in the stadium and amenities and give back to our fans and we're just getting ready for the next 30 years of the fan experience."

In addition, fans will see a new menu with options like rice bowls, tater tots, cheese wedges and ice cream sliders.

The stadium upgrades are only in the first phase. The second phase of the project is not expected to begin until 2025.

The Whitecaps will face Quad Cities River Bandits. The game kicks off at 6:35 p.m. Tickets are still available and can be bought here. The team is giving away scarves to the first 1,000 fans on Tuesday.
