Lions wide receiver Golden Tate talks to media after practice during training camp in Allen Park on Friday, July 27, 2018.

The Detroit Lions traded wide receiver Golden Tate to the Philadelphia Eagles on Tuesday.

Tate, in the final season of a five-year deal with the Lions, maintained both before and during the season a desire to stay with the team.

But, for whatever reasons, Tate is off to end this season with the defending Super Bowl champions.

Before Tate's plane ride to Philly touched down, he was compelled to share his gratitude with the team and city he's leaving.

Tate posted this on Twitter on Tuesday afternoon, leading the message off with "Thank You Detroit!":

"On the plane to Philadelphia, reflecting on my time in Detroit. Can't thank the Lions organization enough for the commitment they made to me and my family. I'm proud to say that every time I stepped onto the field in honolulu blue, I game everything I had. Thank you to the Ford family, my coaches and my teammates. We made a lot of memories together that I will never forget. Most of all, I would like to thanks the Detroit community for embracing my family and I. Elise and I tried to impact the local community through our foundation as much as possible and you guys supported us through every initiative! We are forever thankful!"
