GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The City of Grand Rapids Parks and Recreation is hosting summer day camps beginning in June and registration is now open.

The day camps are completely free and available to children between the ages of 5 and 14. The parks and rec department says there are over 200 spots open in the summer day camps.

“Our Summer Day Camp program is an important resource providing safe, fun and engaging activities for youth in our community,” said David Marquardt, the city’s parks and recreation director. “Our counselors are a major part of what make the program possible and successful.”

The free summer day camps will take place at Garfield, MLK and Roosevelt parks beginning on June 10 and will run until Aug. 16.

The summer camps at Garfield and MLK parks will run from noon until 4 p.m. and the Roosevelt Park summer camp will run from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Each of the summer camps are broken into three three-week sessions, but you are able to register for more than one session. The first runs from June 10 through June 28, the second from July 8 through July 26 and the third from July 29 through Aug. 16.

You can register for the camps here.

Some of the activates planned for the summer camps include: Arts and crafts, outdoor adventures, sports, swimming, movement and dance, STEM activities and more.

The parks and rec department is also hiring camp counselors for the summer. The jobs are 25 hours a week, five hours a day with wages starting at $16 an hour. You must be at least 15 years old and have six months experience working with youth. You can apply here.
