HOLLAND, Mich. — HG Medical USA will invest $41 million in Holland to start manufacturing orthopedic implants used in surgeries to replace broken bones.

It will be located at the old Yanfeng Automotive facility on South Waverly Avenue. The plant closed in 2018 and is now known as the Holland Tech Center.

Lakeshore Advantage, an economic development group, helped convince the company to open the facility in West Michigan.

“They selected our region really based on the quality of the workforce. And quite frankly, it felt like home for them,” said Jennifer Owens the President of Lakeshore Advantage. “We have so many German companies in our region, and the workforce, the quality of life, they said, this is the place we need to be.”

The new jobs will pay just under $22.00 an hour plus benefits. On average Owens said most development projects create around 25 new jobs. HG Medical USA expects to add around 180 new positions.

“We have other states and other nations who would love to attract our businesses and relocate them,” Owens said. “So we also have to be on the defense to make sure our business climate is strong, and our existing companies want to continue to grow and thrive here.”

The state is also providing a $1.8 million grant to help convince HG Medical to move here.

The company chose Holland over other locations in Indiana, Minnesota, and Tennessee. Right now, Lakeshore Advantage says it is working with around 20 other companies considering a move to West Michigan.
