MUSKEGON, Mich. — You may expect some traffic delays in Muskegon this summer.

The City of Muskegon has announced plans to narrow part of Shoreline Drive to two lanes this summer. One lane in each direction will be open between Southern Avenue and Terrace Street.

Auxiliary lanes will also be open at intersections, and six intersections will have signals.

The project will help city officials "develop and implement a road diet" for Shoreline Drive and document the outcome.

Documents say the project aims to "calm" traffic through downtown Muskegon and increase accessibility for pedestrians. The measures will "be temporary in nature to allow for their removal should the need arise," the documents say.

After the pilot project is completed, a report will analyze the outcomes of the "road diet," including successes and failures.
