Another Snow Storm Headed for West Michigan Friday

Another major winter storm will bring high impacts to travel and activities Friday afternoon through early Saturday.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Even though we are now in meteorological spring, winter weather is far from over. Another major winter storm is headed for Lower Michigan and will likely have very high impacts, including West Michigan Friday through late Friday night. The majority, if not all of the precipitation will be in the form of heavy, wet snow.

Track and Timeline

The storm will move from southern Nevada Wednesday evening and track to western Lake Erie by Friday night. West Michigan will be on the colder, snowy side of the storm.

The snow is expected to arrive along the I-94 corridor by 10 a.m. Friday, the I-96 corridor by 12 p.m. and the US-10 corridor by 3 p.m.

Amounts and Impacts

Impacts to visibility and travel are expected to be very high with a medium risk of power outages due to easterly winds gusting to 30+ mph.

Snow will fall at a very heavy rate between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. Friday, approaching 1''+ per hour. Storm totals could range from under 2'' over the NW counties to 12"+ over the SE counties. The amounts and exact location of the heavy snow could change over the next 36 hours, but the all models have been fairly consistent on bringing heavy snow to central and southern Lower Michigan.

The GFS (U.S.) model and GRAF (IBM) model are showing similar amount but affecting areas a little farther south and east of West Michigan.
