Photos: Tyler Jaenicke's journey on and off the ice
Tyler Jaenicke was diagnosed with Idiopathic Cardiomyopathy when he played hockey at Spring Lake High School. His condition caused him to quit the game he loved, and endure a heart transplant in 2016. Now, he's back on the ice.
Tyler Jaenicke’s cardiomyopathy responded to different medicines for five years, but in the spring of 2016, his heart began to fail and he was added to the transplant list.
Tyler Jaenicke was only 17-years old when he was diagnosed with Cardiomyopathy, or end-stage heart disease. His heart transplant surgery took place at Spectrum Hospital and lasted 10 hours.
Tyler Jaenicke says he will be forever grateful to the transplant team at Spectrum Health for giving him a new heart, and making sure he got a second chance at life.
