Liquor license revoked for Lucky's Downtown Market

The business was found liable for seven violations in less than a one-year period.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — On Tuesday, the state's Liquor Control Commission ordered a revocation of the liquor license and permits at Lucky's Downtown Market on Division Avenue.

According to LARA, the business was found liable for seven violations in less than a one-year period for selling alcohol to minors and sale of alcohol to visibly intoxicated people.

The state is required to suspend or revoke liquor licenses if a licensee is found liable for three or more violations within a two year period.

The Grand Rapids Police Department conducted surveillance on Lucky's and the area in general because of ongoing issues with indecent exposure, urinating in public and consuming alcohol in public.

In Tuesday's hearing, the Commission found that there was no demonstration made by Lucky's permit holders, Payal and Ella LLC, to mitigate their history of violations.

“The licensee has shown a pattern of indifference to the real dangers of selling alcohol to minors and visibly intoxicated individuals,” said MLCC Chairman Andy Deloney. “The licensee failed to demonstrate any policies and procedures that would protect the health, safety, and welfare of the public; the Commission decided that revocation was the proper course of action to take.”
