'Person of interest' in two Grand Rapids bank robberies arrested in California

Kenneth Moore was arrested on a parole absconding warrant, and detectives say it is still too soon to know if he will face charges related to the bank robberies.

Kenneth Moore, 56, was arrested in California on Tuesday morning, according to the Grand Rapids Police Department.

Moore has been running from the Michigan Department of Corrections as a parole absconder for over three years, and he was arrested on that warrant. He previously served time for assault, felony firearms and a prison weapons offense.

The 56-year-old has felony convictions dating back nearly 30 years, and police described him as a fugitive with a violent past.

Additionally, Grand Rapids Police detectives names him a person of interest in the Sept. 10 bank robberies that happened hours apart.

The bank robberies occurred at two separate Fifth Third Bank branches, and although they have similarities, police originally said they were not assuming the same individual was involved in both crimes.

There have been five bank robberies in Grand Rapids in 2018, including these two. The three previous cases are all closed and the suspects in those have been identified and taken into custody.

Moore will be brought back to Michigan once transportation arrangements are made. Police first asked for the public's help in finding Moore on Sept. 13.

Detectives say it is still too soon to know if Moore will face additional charges since the bank robberies are still being investigated.
