Breton Village holiday train tradition may end

The model train display at Breton Village Mall in Grand Rapids is a holiday tradition that has thrilled visitors of all ages for over 25 years.

But that tradition may end after this year

The model train display at Breton Village Mall in Grand Rapids is a holiday tradition that has thrilled visitors of all ages for over 25 years.

But that tradition may end after this year

The owners are "de-malling" Breton Village. Instead of an enclosed mall, when the reconstruction is finished, Breton Village will be an open air shopping center.

Store owners say mall management has informed them there won’t be any interior space available for the train display after this year. Many visitors say they will be sorry to see it go.

“I have 4 kids and each one has kind of grown up coming here,” says parent Aubree Ellis. “It will be really sad.”

”We have been here for probably 45 minutes and he doesn't want to leave,” says Jamie Kimball, pointing to his 2 year old son Jake.

According to the mall web site, the trains will continue to run this holiday season until December 31.
