Man who killed mother, injured two sons in hit-and-run pleads no contest

KENT COUNTY, Mich. - Douglas Crystal entered a no contest plea for a September 2017 hit and run crash that killed a 33-year-old mother and critically injured her two sons.

Investigators say that Crystal ran a stop sign at the intersection of Ritchie Avenue at 15 Mile Road near Rockford. He then hit another vehicle.

Meranda Baguss was killed in the incident, and her five-year-old sons, Tony Anthony and Chauncy Anthony, were hospitalized.

Crystal ran from the scene of the crash, leaving his pickup truck behind.

A data recorder retrieved from his pickup indicated the vehicle was traveling 91 miles per hour five seconds prior to the collision, court records show.

He also entered a plea for driving while intoxicated causing death and driving while intoxicated causing serious injury.

Crystal will be sentenced on May 3.
