PORTAGE, Mich. — Portage Public Schools announced Thursday that all of the schools in the district will be closed on Friday, May 10.

The district added that the closures also include Curious Kids and Prime Time.

The closure comes after an EF-2 tornado did extensive damage to parts of the city on Tuesday.

Dozens of buildings were damaged or destroyed and over 100 families were displaced by the storms.

The district says that the closure is to allow crews more time to restore services to their buildings.

The schools in the district were also closed on Wednesday and Thursday of this week.

Portage Public Schools made no additional announcements about whether their schools would be open on Monday.

"Thank you for your patience.  Please continue to be safe," the district wrote in their announcement.
