GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The 3,000 students at Kenowa Hills Public Schools got an extra long Memorial Day weekend after a threat was made by a 14-year-old student to the district's middle school.
Friday, May 25, the district posted the schools were closed "as a precautionary measure due to a threat." Holy Trinity Catholic School also closed their doors because of the incident.
Walker police were made aware of the threat Thursday night. The unnamed student, who attends the middle school, got into an altercation on the school bus Thursday where he made comments about shooting up the school.
As of Friday morning, police had not made contact with the student so the decision to cancel school was made district-wide.
Walker police said after a "lengthy search with assistance from the student's family, Kenowa Hills schools and the Kent County Sheriff school resource officer the student was taken into custody without incident."
The teenager has been lodged at the Kent County Juvenile Detention Center pending charges.
