Woman riding electric bike dies after she was hit by a truck in Grand Rapids

Once the investigation is complete, the Kent County Prosecutor's Office will review the case.

A woman riding an electric bike on 44th Street was hit by a car in Grand Rapids Monday.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A woman who was hit by a truck while riding an electric bike on May 20 has died from her injuries, according to the Grand Rapids Police Department. 

GRPD said 28-year-old Bennautica Casja Knowles of Grand Rapids was riding her bike eastbound on 44th Street around 10 a.m. when she was hit by a truck that was turning from Plymouth Avenue. 

She was taken to a local hospital in "grave condition," police said.

Police said the truck's driver remained on the scene and cooperated with investigators. 

The investigation is ongoing.

The case will be reviewed by the Prosecutor's Office for potential charges upon completion, GRPD said.
