Wellspring Prep boys basketball having best season in quite some time

For the first time in nine years, the Wolves have an above-500 record at 13-8 overall.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Grand Rapids Wellspring Preparatory High School is having a season that hasn't been seen at the school in quite some time.

For the first time in nine years, the Wolves have an above-500 record at 13-8 overall.

Much of that is due in large part to the team's success behind the three-point line, particularly senior guard Zeek Jackson, who is putting up 29 points per game. He also scored a career-high 48 points earlier this season.

"I feel like it is a very special group," Jackson said. "A lot of us have played together for a while but last year we didn't get to play together because we had a different team. I feel like we are special."

The Wolves believe they have an exceptional team.

"We're getting more united as the season goes on," Wellspring Prep head coach Fred Schweitzer said. "We've got some young guys that are fitting in well. We've got a freshman that has been our second-leading scorer so that has been huge. Just having that one extra scorer and another guy to move balls to three-point shooters has been great that way."

Wellspring Prep will play a week from Wednesday in the district playoffs. Their opponent is still to be determined.
