Try It Before You Buy It: Balloon Zoom

Can we use the power of air to propel rockets and cars? We test out the Balloon Zoom!

Have you ever wanted to power a toy car with a balloon or shoot a man to the moon?

The Balloon Zoom promises to be hours of fun your kids — but is it?

Let's Try It Before you Buy It!

Setting it up was pretty quick. Just attach the plunger, and you're good to go. The only two hiccups we ran into was our 8-year-old tester had some trouble getting the balloon on the rockets and the car.

We first tested the balloon car on the carpet and found it did not work too well. So we moved on to a hard floor, and it worked great. After a few pumps, you are ready to roll. Once the balloon is secured to the car, you can reuse it multiple times since the balloon stays attached, and the expelled air propels the vehicle.

Next up, the astronaut. This one turned out to be a lot less predictable than the balloon car. Once you pump up the balloon and hit the button, we found that the astronaut would either fly straight up or take a quick nosedive to the ground.

Overall, our 8-year-old tester had fun. Even days later, she kept pulling it out of the box to play with it.

The results:

The positives

  • Multiple uses from one balloon
  • Easy to follow directions
  • Quick to set up

The negatives

  • Lots of work to fill one balloon
  • The astronauts were a bit hit or miss

Overall, this did provide hours of fun for our tester. Even when the test was over, she still wanted to play with it. For that simple fact, we rate this as a "Buy It."
