GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A car that broke down on westbound Interstate-96 near the Fulton Street and East Beltline Avenue exits around 10 p.m. Thursday has caused at least one crash and is slowing down traffic, according to the Kent County Sheriff's Office.

A deputy said the car that broke down didn't have any lights on, so other people on the road weren't able to see it and crashed.

He said it caused more than one crash, but he's not sure how many. There are no reported injuries from either crash or with the person whose car broke down.

The westbound lane will be closed off until deputies and the Michigan State Police get wreckers on the scene to clean up the crashes.

"[Traffic] will be slow, if not completely blocked off," the Kent County Sherrif's deputy said on the phone Thursday night.

He also said that the traffic will likely block exits around the crash.
