WYOMING, Mich. — Nearly one year after 18-year-old Kane Coronado was shot and killed, detectives are preparing to provide updates into the investigation and ask for the public's help.
Coronado, who was from White Cloud, was shot in the neck the afternoon of Nov. 1, 2022 while riding his bike on Indian Mounds Drive. He died at the scene.
No one has been arrested in connection to his death.
Coronado has been remembered as a loving friend and avid biker. He was part of a Grand Rapids biking group called Big Rippers 616. He was described as having a good sense of humor, and being an inspiration to other bikers.
"Kane is my cousin, but he's just like my brother," Josiphi Coronado said. "We grew up together from when we were in diapers...He was just great, and felt like another one of me. It's just heartbreaking that I don't have him no more."
Investigators later asked for the community's help in locating a vehicle that was in the area around the time of the shooting, described as a gray or silver 4-door Chevrolet Cavalier 2000-2005 model year.
A witness described the suspect as a 30-year-old white man. He had a thin, light gray colored beard and was wearing a beanie or stocking cap. The witness also recalled the suspect having a thin build and wearing "scruffy" clothes.
On Wednesday, the one-year anniversary of Coronado's death, police will hold a press conference providing an update into the investigation and asking the public for tips relating to the shooting. A representative from Silent Observer will go over how to submit an anonymous tip and offer a reward, according to police.
Friends and family are hoping a tip will lead to answers and justice.
